The history of Kazan Icon of the Mother of God begins with the XVI century. At the same time, the circumstances and the place of its appearance even today seem unusual and wonderful.

The image of the Theotokos appeared in Kazan in 1579, when the local population was predominantly Muslim. Nevertheless, it was this city and during this turbulent time the true image of the Mother of God appeared.

The appearance was as follows. After some time after the fire, one nine-year-old girl Matrona, the daughter of an arch member of the royal army, begins to see Mother of God with an order to find Her image at the ashes. After the first appearance of the Virgin, nobody believed the girl. However, the Mother of God appeared to Matrona more than once and not twice, and the girl continued to appeal to adults asking for an image. After some time Matrona's mother talks to Orthodox priests with a request for help and a story about the wonderful vision of her daughter. However, priests doubt the truth of these phenomena and do not hurry to look for an image. Only after repeated persistent appeals to the bishop of Kazan, it was decided to find the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary. As a result, the image wrapped in cloth was found at one of the ashes. According to legend, the image was found only when the Matrona began to dig herself. At the place of finding the icon, by the command of the king, the Virgin monastery and the church were built. It is believed that in the future the original icons were always kept in the Kazan Mother of God monastery until the beginning of the twentieth century.

The image of the Kazan Most Holy Mother of God, by type, casts on the icons of Odigitriya - the Guide, and indeed, to many of state governors, she repeatedly pointed out the right path. Not only the state men pointed out the icon's path - in a good tradition in this way the youngsters were blessed for marriage by parents. A long list of miracles accompanied by this image of Our Lady - one of the most beloved in Rus.

Історія Казанської ікони Божої Матері починається з XVI століття. При цьому обставини і місце її явлення навіть сьогодні здаються незвичайними та дивовижними.

Образ Богородиці з’явився в Казані у 1579 році, коли місцеве населення переважно було мусульманським.Тим не менше саме в цьому місті і в цей неспокійний час і явила Свій чесний образ Матір Божа.

Саме явлення відбулося наступним чином. Через деякий час після пожежі одній дев’ятирічній дівчинці Матроні, дочці стрільця царського війська — починає являтися Сама Божа Матір з повелінням відшукати Свій образ на одному з попелищ. Після першого явлення Богородиці дівчинці ніхто не повірив. Однак Матір Божа являлася Матроні ще не раз і не два, і дівчинка продовжує звертатися до дорослих з проханням відшукати образ. Через деякий час мама Матрони звертається до православних священиків з проханням про допомогу і розповіддю про чудесне бачення своєї дочки. Однак священнослужителі сумніваються в істинності цих явищ і не поспішають відшукувати образ. Лише після неодноразових наполегливих звернень до єпископа Казані було вирішено відшукати образ Пречистої Богородиці. В результаті образ, загорнутий в сукно, був знайдений на одному з попелищ. За переказами, образ був знайдений тільки тоді, коли копати почала сама Матрона.На місці знайдення ікони за повелінням царя був побудований Богородицький дівочий монастир і церква .Вважається, що в подальшому оригінал ікони постійно зберігався в Казанському Богородицькому монастирі аж до початку ХХ століття.

Образ Казанської Пресвятої Богородиці за типом налужить до ікон Одигітрія – Путеводительниця, і справді, багатьом нашим співвітчизникам вона не раз вказувала вірний шлях. Не тільки державним мужам вказувала шлях ікона – за доброю традицією саме цим образом благословляють на шлюб молодих батьки, довгим списком чудес супроводжується цей образ Богоматері – один з найулюбленіших на Русі.
