St. Tarasiy was born in Constantinople in a noble family. He has pursued a good education and having started the service of the secretary of Queen Irene, he quickly moved on in his career, becoming a senator. At that time, iconoclasm flourished against the appreciation of icons. Patriarch Paul, unable to deal with this, renounced his dignity and named Tarasiy as his successor. After taking his place, Tarasiy convened the VII Ecumenical Council and took efforts for reaffirmed the reverence of holy icons.

Twenty-two years Taras Constantinople was a patriarch. All this time he helped the poor, orphans and widows. Served honestly and was not afraid to shame the emperor in dishonest deeds. The saint died in 806 and was buried in a monastery on the Bosphorus, which he once founded.

Двадцять два роки Тарасій Константинопольський був патріархом. Весь цей час він допомагав убогим, сиротам і вдовам. Служив чесно і не боявся присоромити імператора в непорядні вчинки. Святий помер в 806 році і був похований в монастирі на Босфорі, який він колись заснував.
