The church refers meeting of St. Veronica with Christ to the events of His Cross Road. When Christ was walking, bending under the burden of his cross, stumbling and falling on the cross road, going to the place of the Crucifixion, a woman approached him. Her real name was probably different from Veronica, but in the tradition she is known exactly by this name. The Church tradition calls Veronica a pious Jewish woman who was not afraid to come to the point of carrying his cross of Jesus and to give Him his own plates (a piece of cloth) to wipe his face. On the fabric there appeared a "real image" (Lat. Icona vera) of Jesus.

Also, according to Christian tradition, Veronica was the bleeding woman who received healing from touching the edge of the clothes of Christ (Matthew 9: 20-22) 

There are a number of legends designed to give the image of St. Veronica historical traits. According to Western medieval legends, she subsequently preached Christianity in the south of Gaul, and is also identified with Martha, sister of Lazarus. In Italy, there was a legend according to which She healed the Emperor Tiberius with her clothes with image of the Savior. It is believed that Veronica's name is a distorted Lat. vera icon ("true image") - so called the "Veronica Card", distinguishing it from other images of Christ. For the first time, the story of the feast of Veronica appears in the apocryphal Acts of Pilate, referring to the III or IV century

The image and the actions of holy Veronica served because she is honored as a patron of photographers and photographers. Therefore, this day, amateurs and professionals of photography are celebrated as a photographer's day.
